This trail weaves around and throughout sections of Ormond's 149-acre Central Park. It was named after former City Manager Gerald Althouse, who in 1976 proposed the concept of an expansive city park in which residents did not have to travel far to enjoy nature. Walk, jog or bike along wide shaded paved paths, shell trails and elevated wooden boardwalks. There are several loops that vary in distance from a half-mile to a mile, and the trail is wheelchair accessible. Visitors may observe more than 30 species of plants and wildlife such as ducks, egrets, white herons, otters, armadillos and raccoons. Central Park also offers other activities such as fishing, kayaking, basketball and tennis.
