Thornby Park was opened to public in 2001 as an all-inclusive “inspiration playground.” The city of Deltona and Volusia County co-own the park through an ECHO grant that provided funding for construction. The site is set on nearly 40 acres of wooded property and includes 1,000 feet of shoreline on the St. Johns River. The park has a large playground and gazebo and is a trailhead for the East Central Regional Rail Trail, which eventually will cross 52 miles in Volusia and Brevard counties.
