Enjoy beautiful views of the St. Johns River while learning about the plants and animals that live along the river's shores! The Volusia County Explore Volusia program invites you to join Environmental Specialist Tommy Nordmann on a 1.5-mile hike through Hickory Bluff Preserve. This hike will take participants through a variety of habitats including pine flatwoods and oak and palm hammocks. It will also include beautiful views of the St. Johns River and information about the native plants and animals that live there. In honor of National Public Lands Day 2026 on September 26, this program is being done in collaboration with the St. Johns Riverkeeper "Protect Our Public Lands Passport Challenge." Children must be accompanied by an adult. ATTIRE: closed-toe shoes that can get muddy and wet, comfortable clothing for the outdoors ** Some of our trails have mud and/or standing water because they are located in wetland ecosystems and because of seasonal rains and high tides. We recommend you bring a pair of waterproof boots in addition to your regular hiking shoes if you don't want your shoes to get wet. Our hike leader will let you know the condition of the trails prior to the start of the hike.
