This 22,000-square-foot facility opened in May 2012 to replace the Cypress Street Recreational Center, which was built as an auditorium in 1949 and was part of Daytona Beach's rich black history. The site remains on the Black Heritage Trail. Midtown includes the T.R. Faircloth Gymnasium and is next to the Cypress Aquatics Center and Cypress Street Park.

The Midtown Cultural and Education Center offers:

  • Indoor basketball/volleyball court
  • Music/recording room
  • Art studio
  • Dance studio
  • Experimental kitchen
  • Computer lab
  • Meeting room
The city plans to expand the site to include an outdoor basketball court, tennis court and baseball field.
